Welcome Point Loma Yacht Club Member

Dear Member:

With the new year in full swing, we hope you're able to get onto the water to enjoy San Diego's beautiful bay, anchorages and scenery. We truly live in one of the best cities in the world for boaters!

Each new member receives this information in their welcome packet. It also furnishes great reminders. Please remember to do the following when visiting another yacht club.

• Always call ahead to ensure the club you plan on visiting has a reciprocal arrangement with PLYC. If you find yourself becoming a "regular" at any particular club, consider joining. However, we also want you to remain a member at PLYC as well!

• Always sign in. There should be a sign-in book somewhere near or at the front desk. If you cannot find a sign-in book, please ask someone for assistance. This is each club's way to track usage, etc. And if the club you visit needs to track you down for any reason, they will go to that book for details. One time a club up north contacted me because one of our members left something behind at their galley. I was able to track down the member and the item got returned.

• Always treat your visit as if you are a guest in someone else's home. Without asking, you typically wouldn't help yourself to turn down the lights, adjust the air conditioning or heat, turn on/off the fireplace, or take a shower, etc.

• Never argue about rules with members, employee personnel, or club officials. If asked to comply with a reasonable request, please do so. This even includes complying with a request to vacate the property or to not use a particular area of the club. Once again, if you were a guest in someone's home and they asked you to leave, you would do so.

• If you have any issues with members, club officials or personnel, please obey their request and contact me or the current Commodore of PLYC. We will work with the club to ensure everyone understands our arrangements. We may not be able to do so "on the spot," but we will work to mend things at our earliest convenience.

• Always remember that the privilege of visiting another club is just that, a privilege. We don't have "reciprocal rights," and we are not "reciprocal members." This small distinction in verbiage and mindset is important. Thank you very much for your attention to this important matter. And if you have any questions, concerns, suggestions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at info@pointlomayachtclub.org.

I hope to see a lot of PLYC burgees on the bay every weekend!

Best Regards
Mick Moore
