Staff Commodore: Ed “Ned”
Knight
Staff Commodore Ed “Ned” Knight retired from United Airlines in
2001 after 35 years. He was appointed Commodore of Point Loma
Yacht Club in 2000.
Ned was the proud owner of Apollo v from 1996 till 2011. During
this time, he sailed in Newport to Ensenada races along with San Diego to Ensenada races, Marina
del Rey to San Diego, Bishop Rock races around Catalina double handed and the Transpac in
1999.
Local races include the Hot Rum, Beer Cans, and other charity
regattas. Back in the 1980's, Ned participated in several Mexico Orc out of Manzanillo, Careyes,
and Tenatacita. He also has participated in four Chicago Mac races on a 36.7, as well as assorted
lake races on a Mumm 30.
Mr Kinight has crewed on many boats from Manzanillo, Puerto
Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas and la Paz. Some of which have been power boats up to 68 feet with
sailboats from 34 to 70 feet.
Ned has crewed on ole 57 ‘sport boat in Baja Guadalupe island,
Sacramento reef, Cedric’s fishing for sailfish and swordfish, as well as Tuna for weeks at a time.
His last delivery was from Hawaii to San Diego on tachyon with a stop in Hanalei bay for four
days…
Ned is still active with the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club
(OMBAC) since 1979. and still can be found selling tokens at Stinky’s bar at the otl.tournament. He
can be found riding his motorcycles along with Woody Wood up and down the coast as well as Lake
Havasu Arizona.
