Director: Jon Coats
Jon is originally from El Paso, Texas, but grew up in the
Los Angeles area. At Long Beach State, he joined the Sailing Club in 1967. Jon moved to San
Diego in 1970. He has had a boat since the
1970's.
Jon has been a member or officer for several boating
associations: Hobie Fleet 4, San Diego Outboard Motor Club, USCG Auxiliary. Jon
join the PLYC in 2012. He has owned several boats: Cal2-29, Hobie 16 & 18,
Pringle 18, a 505, and an Islander 30, he presently has a Cal-34 sailboat kept at HalfMoon
Marina. He enjoys the races, parties and BBQ at the PLYC. He became a director in
2018.
While presently with the USCG Auxiliary, he also does
vessel inspection, teaches boating safety classes, and Radio communication to both the public
and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He also augments the Coast Guard Sector San Diego at the
Joint Harbor Operation Center JHOC). He also augments in cooking on coast guard cutter
and vessels and for coast guard events.
Note: CA requires recreational power boat operators who are
age 20 and younger to carry a boater education card (remember, when you turn on the engine on
a sailboat you are a power boat!). And on Jan 1, 2019 this age will be 25 and younger. 2020

Jon has been in the mortgage banking field since 1975, and
owned his own mortgage company for the last 25+ years. He is a retired now and volunteering
in various clubs.
Jon is hoping to help keep the club open more hours for the
members, he looking forward to this year at PLYC and enjoying the club events while
meeting more of the club’s members.
