Staff Commodore: Kristan
Kelsch
Kristan has lived in
San Diego since January of 2012. Prior to moving to San Diego, Kristan lived in Northern
California where she ran a successful business and estate planning law practice since
2004.
While attending UOP,
McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, California, she frequently sat on the banks of the river
watching with envy as boaters of the Delta river- ways would zoom by. One day she decided to
purchase her first vessel, a 19 foot ski boat. Kristan owned this vessel for about 10 years until
she sold it.
It has always been
her life-long dream to live near the ocean and so in January 2013 she and all of her belongings
moved to San Diego. She has since been working continually to re-build her law practice here
and wanted again to become an integral part of the boating community in San Diego. One day in
August of 2013 she was invited to go sailing with a group of people for a friend’s
birthday.
She was actually
hesitant to go… not knowing the captain or the boat! The rest as they say is
history. The captain of the sailboat was Mick Moore who also is on the board of
PLYC. From this point forward Kristan formed a liking for sailboats and quickly became
friends with Mick and his wife Manisha.
Soon after, Kristan
joined PLYC and became more and more involved in the club’s activities and the boating
community. Kristan raced last year as a crewmember during the beer can races on
Accord. Accord finished first in their class for the series. Kristan also joined
Staghound on their sail around Todo Santos and their race to
Oceanside.
Kristan is looking forward to assisting PLYC remain a successful club and is eager to help PLYC
members to enjoy all the waterways and experiences on the water San Diego has to offer as she
currently does.
