Staff Commodore: Dayle Reimer
Growing up in Kansas, Dayle had never been on a sailboat until a
vacation in the British Virgin Islands aboard a chartered yacht changed her life
direction.
She says at the end of the trip they practically had to “pry her
off the boat” because she didn’t want it to ever end. In fact, she enjoyed the experience so much
that years later she started her own business, Adventures Afloat, arranging destination sailing
trips in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, and South Pacific for families, friends, and
groups.
Her favorite trip was a 2-week flotilla sailing trip in Greece
where the group visited 11 islands in the course of 2 weeks, and many life-long friendships were
formed. A highlight was anchoring in close view of Poseidon’s temple.
She learned to sail while living in Dana Point in the 90’s and
enjoyed many long weekend getaways to Catalina. She enjoys ocean racing and has done the Newport to
Ensenada race 8 times.
Her dream of a blue-water cruising experience came true in 2005
when she signed on to crew on a 34’ boat making the “puddle jump” from Mexico to the South Pacific,
making landfall in the Marquesas Islands, then continuing on through the Tuomotu Atolls and
eventually reaching Tahiti.
Dayle’s move to San Diego was prompted by her desire to be part of
a sailing community and feels she has truly found that sense of community at Point Loma Yacht
Club.
A favorite quote… “Years from now you will be more disappointed by
the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away
from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” -Mark
Twain
